How To Speed Up Windows
A slow computer should be a thing of the past. In this day of innovations and technology, having a slow computer will really make you feel like you are living in the Jurassic Age. It is for this reason and others, that people always try to look for ways to speed up their PCs.
If you are on the same road, then you just came to the right place. Yes, there is a lot of tweaking and modifying involved in speeding up a PC. But hey, these effortless sacrifices are always worth it.
Here is some of the tweaking I did to speed up my Windows:
- Getting bored of the menu delays is really annoying. Lessen the time it takes for menu transitions by right-clicking your desktop. Select Properties and click the Effects tab. Unmark the Animate windows menu lists. For Windows XP users, you can do this by right-clicking on the desktop, choosing Properties, clicking the Appearance tab, selecting the Effects option and uncheck Use the following transition effects for menus and tooltips, then Click OK.
- Speed up Windows Start Up by cleaning out the programs you don’t need at start-up. For Windows 98 users, this could be done by going to Start and clicking Run. Type in MSConfig.exe and hit OK button. Click the Start up tab then unmark the programs you wish to disable during the startup. You see, you can only speed start up Windows if you lessen the programs and applications that your PC needs to “wake up”.
- Defrag may be an old school process but it doesn’t fail to help anyone who has speed problems. Find the defrag option under your System Tools menu from the Accessories or Start Tab. Make sure that you dedicate a time for defragging. Running various programs while on defrag limits the process itself.
- Choosing to install your programs would be best if you always encounter script and other minor errors. Run a virus scan before you back up all of your important files. Also, make sure that you have a copy of your hardware drivers and program installers before trying to delete the contents of your hard drive. Reinstalling your program takes at least an hour or so.
- This is a very basic tip that you should regularly do: Remove any unused programs. Applications, whether you are using them or not, eat up space in your hard disk. If you aren’t utilizing them, then is there still a need to keep them?
